Halloween Movie Night

Join us this Saturday night for family fun, we are hosting a free film night for Halloween.

The Addams Family is a laugh-in-the-dark funhouse ride of sinister gags and Gothic giggles, and will get you in the mood for Halloween with it creepy, kooky and spooky entertainment.

Seating will be on the floor for kids with limited seating for adults, we have plenty of picnic blankets but bring a cushion or a pillow to enjoy the fun.

Come and enjoy this dark and witty film and for those of us who were around to see it in 1991 - you be the judge, has it got better with age ?

This film is rated PG. Limited capacity - get your spot early.

Sunset Session this Friday !

We are in for a treat at this weeks social night with a return from our friends and musicians with their new groove Bright Violet.

With roots in acclaimed bands like Tijuana Cartel, Band of Frequencies, Bonjah and more, they bring a wealth of experience to their sonic journey. These sunset session specialists are renowned for their spellbinding performances, channeling their collective energies into a hypnotic blend of psychedelic blues and loft groove.

Come join us for an evening of backyard performance, pizza, plenty of good company. Come and join Joel for his 40th Birthday and share Tamara’s birthday and have a good boogie !!

We hope to host this film at Wardell CORE - however we have booked the hall as a weather contingency.

Get ready for plenty of entertaining scares, finger food, kids activities, face painting 3:30-6pm, Halloween fashion and DISCO from 6pm-8pm at The Wardell Hall. Get your costume ready for best dresses prizes.

Wardell CORE are absolutely thrilled to have been nominated and shortlisted as a finalist from a huge crowd of worthy applicants from across NSW and the ACT for this fantastic award.

The Awards Australia Connecting Communities Award recognises grass-roots, ‘real life’ initiatives (led by local community groups or not-for-profits) that demonstrate genuine involvement, long-term value and add to the life of their community. 

Everyone who has been involved, supported, volunteered, worked and contributed to our communities recovery can be incredibly proud to have this recognition of service and for having created a wonderful example of community led recovery.

Stay tuned, we will be sending representatives from our team to the awards ceremony in Sydney later in November.

Wardell CORE are thrilled to share with you that for the second year in a row we have been named as a finalist in the 2023 NSW Resilient Australia Awards.  We will have the great privilege of attending the award ceremony at NSW Parliament House next week.

This is important recognition for the work our community has achieved in over the past 18 months championing recovery and building preparedness for the impacts of future disasters.

Kayaking Eco Adventure

We had an absolutely amazing weekend paddling on the Richmond River and right up Bingal creek exploring the beautiful mangroves, paperbark forest, giant Cabbage Palms while lapping up the delicious weather to be out on the water.

We spotted our local Osprey catching fish, Sea Eagles, loads of Kingfishers, Easter Whipbirds and even a pod of Dolphins !

Such a joy to share this adventure into our wilderness and getting this unique kayak perspective with a great bunch of local youth. Huge thanks to the Department of Regional Youth for supporting this activity and to our team or parents, supporters, supervisors and safety officers.

We culminated our eco adventure this afternoon with guidance from local artist Lisa Schoeppe creating designs inspired by our local ecosystem.

Everyone is super keen to do this again so stay tuned!

Grow Well Wardell

Come and learn about our magical native bees!

Join us for a morning with Steve Maginnity, founder of The Australian Native Bee co., to learn about the amazing world of Australian native bees. In this workshop we’ll learn about native bee biology, how to care for a hive, husbandry techniques and we’ll get to sample some of their delicious nectar.

Steve is an agricultural scientist and after discovering native stingless bees through his work he developed an instant love for the insects and now runs educational programs and a local pollination service for farmers. Find out for yourself why these little critters are so special, book your spot today as places are limited!

Did you know that native bees are crucial for the pollination of plants throughout Australia and that we have over 1700 species of them ! The species we will be exploring in this workshop are one of only a few 'social or colony' bees native to Australia and are widely different to European Bees - they are only a few mm long and are also stingless.

Social Ceramics

Thanks to everyone who made the first Friday craft morning such a success! Social Ceramics run by Jenny and Pia saw the creation of many beautiful pots and bowls. On again this Friday for those who booked in to paint your creations. Looking forward to seeing the finished results!

For many of us, our balance and strength declines as we age, and conversely our risk of falls and sustaining a fracture increases. However these effects can be mitigated, or reversed to an extent, with appropriate exercise therapy.

Strength training can also reduce the signs and symptoms of many diseases and chronic conditions.

All ages and stages can join this group and be supported with a personalised range of movement, balance and resistance activities.

Wardell’s Wellbeing Program offers a dedicated space for professional counselling services and qualified mental health supporters for the community and Wardell district.

Our facilities and programs are an essential asset for our community’s recovery and mental health. We are privileged to have the support of supported by Healthy North Coast to be able to provide this safe and welcoming space and offer a range of support with our amazing team of registered counsellors and mental health workers.

We provide a drop-in centre, appointments on demand and referral services available 5 days a week. We can also offer outcalls and outreach or consultation by phone. Our mental health services are free, discreet and confidential. You can come and talk to our professional team at any time for help, advice or support or just drop in for a cuppa and a chat.
