Festival of Small Halls - Wardell, Sunday January 28th

Time is running out to grab your tickets for the Summer Tour 2024 of the Woodford Folk Festival which will feature Trad-Scottish duo Ryan Young, sunshine-filled songwriter Alana Wilkinson from the Northern Rivers and local artist Serendipiti.

We will have beer on tap from our mates at Stone and Wood Brewery, a selection of wines from our partners at Briar Ridge Vineyard and charcuterie plates for sale on the night.

Join us for this amazing opportunity for all budding songwriters.

We will be hosting Alana Joy Wilkinson, Australian folk music singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in an interactive Q&A style workshop that explores ways to craft life's experiences into song.

We welcome participants of all ages and experience. From those who write songs professionally to those who aren't sure where to start and to those just looking for a behind-the-scenes peek at how songs come together, we create an environment that makes songwriting comfortable and accessible to all.

While the Songwriters Workshop has an overarching structure, the content tends to flow to where the audience Q & A takes it leaning the experience toward spontaneity, hilarious stories and tangible techniques that audience members can take home with them.

This will be facilitated for a small and intimate group at Wardell CORE. Come along and get creative.

• Case Management - Uniting Recovery Support Services will continue on Tuesdays with Paola who is able to support existing clients and help with new intakes. Drop in on Tuesdays or arrange an appointment.

  Hi, I’m Paola Acuna from the Uniting Recovery Support Service program. I’ve been assisting people in flood recovery for over 18 months. Our work as RSS caseworkers is quite extensive. We can help you provide advice and referrals, navigate government and community services, and link you to the proper support depending on your needs.

   

  Uniting RSS aims to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families on their recovery journey and assist them where we can. I’ll be attending the Wardell CORE every Tuesday, so feel free to come by and have a chat.”

  Northern Rivers Women and Children’s Services Incorporated (NORWACS) is a feminist, community-based charity that provides health and wellbeing services for the diversity of women and their children, in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.

  Our services recognise and challenge the effects of sex-role stereotyping and gender discrimination on women’s health and wellbeing. We work to empower women to determine their individual health needs and to make and access evidence informed choices.

• Family Support with The Family Centre. We will be providing a range of programs and services for families to help build and enhance relationships, understanding and improve family safety and wellbeing

World Pizza Day - Friday February 9

Join our first community social event for 2024 and celebrate the food that brings people together. Come along for a pizza with a purpose, and help us raise some dough for the community.

We are hoping to grow our volunteer pizza crew, if you have an interest in joining the team we would love to hear from you.

We have joined The Chatty Cafe movement!

The Chatty Café Scheme aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness by encouraging and creating opportunities for people to interact through conversation.

You will now find a dedicated bright yellow “chatty table” where will be reserving seats for anyone who would like a conversation. Come join us for a cuppa Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.

We are excited to announce we are starting a Wardell Ukulele group !
Perfect for beginners, this social group is for anyone who enjoys making music.

We have a class set of beautiful new Ukuleles for community use and music books, but if you have your own instrument or guitar feel free to join in the fun.
This 10 week program will be lead by local music teacher Mike Ward starts Feb 5th, Monday evenings from 4pm-5pm at Wardell CORE.

We have scheduled this program to be inclusive of young people who may want to join after school. All ages welcome
Strum along and join us for a laugh and learn to play Ukulele.

Register now to join in, spaces are limited and we may look to run a second group session if there is interest.

Entry is a suggested donation of $50 for the term ( just $5 per session). Please commit to the entire program.

Join us for the next 10 week program of Therapeutic Yoga in Wardell on Monday nights from 6pm-7pm at the Wardell Hall

Perfect for anyone of all ages, stages and abilities, this program will be individually tailored for your wants and needs

"Yoga Therapy" includes a range of therapeutic movements that are good for healthy joints, organ health, healthy lower backs and improving sleep.

Wardell CORE are continuing to subsidise this fantastic program and offer access for just $5 per class = $50 for the ten week series.

We are thrilled to invite you to another 10 week journey of discovery with this ancient technique guided by experienced practitioner Shawna Ink.

This introduction to Qigong is a 10 week gentle exercise that is practical and available for everyone. No experience or ability is necessary.

This is a parenting program developed to assist parents to respond to your children’s behaviour and help you feel more confident in your parenting approach. The course explores the emotions and in particular how to help children identify and manage emotions to encourage positive behaviours and build emotional resilience. For parents/carers with children aged from 2–12 years.

Produce bags come in three sizes for different family sizes and we offer costs recovery at a sliding scale so you can opt to pay at a rate you can afford.

We offer a selection of seasonal fresh fruit and veggie staples including Onions, Potatoes, Carrots, Apples, Bananas, Sweet Potato, Pumpkin, Greens etc

Something you don’t like or eat ?? No matter, all our bags come standard but you can swap items out for something you like.

Mindful Healing - facilitated by Northern Rivers Women and Children’s Service

In "Mindful Healing", we offer a compassionate and supportive journey of healing and resilience for women who have faced personal adversities or the challenges of natural disasters in the Northern Rivers.

Our six-week program focuses on understanding trauma, cultivating inner strength, and developing practical skills in emotion regulation, self-compassion, mindfulness, boundary setting, and self-care.

Our facilitators provide evidence-based psychoeducation and strategies including interactive exercises, creative expression, and group discussions, in which participants find solace, connection, and empowerment. Together, we embark on a path to heal from the emotional scars, build resilience, and rediscover hope in a nurturing and understanding community. You are not alone; join us as we embrace the journey of recovery and growth.

Have you visited our plant library yet ?

Adjacent to the hub you will find our little grow houses that contain a supply of plants and seedlings available for the community. We encourage you to bring your surplus plants, and propagate your own to share and swap.

We also have a range of seedlings lovingly grown by Ashley to take and grow. There is a selection of summer vegetables and flowers including okra, eggplant, pumpkin, watermelon, tomatoes and Pak Choi all looking for their forever gardens.

You can visit the library any time and leave a donation in Bob’s awesome up-cycled fire hydrant donation tin.

Computer access and tech support

Don’t forget we have a public access computer available, free internet and WIFI connection throughout Wardell CORE. Bring your laptop, drop in for a cuppa and connect. We also offer free printing services, basic tech support, document scanning and email support.

Weekly Meditation Group will be moving to the Catholic Church hall adjacent to the Church (starting tomorrow).

Every Saturday morning at 7am we gather for meditation and practice some mindfulness exercises.

We are fortunate to have the guidance of local and long term mediation practitioner Denis who offers us a weekly mantra for positive inner dialog.

This activity is for all ages and stages. Feel free to join in if you are an experienced and avid meditation practitioner, just starting out or even just curious.

Join this group and share a cup of tea and a chat with others who are learning to find space in the mind and quieten daily stress and anxiety.

Wardell’s Wellbeing Program offers a dedicated space for professional counselling services and qualified mental health supporters for the community and Wardell district.

Our facilities and programs are an essential asset for our community’s recovery and mental health. We are privileged to have the support of supported by Healthy North Coast to be able to provide this safe and welcoming space and offer a range of support with our amazing team of registered counsellors and mental health workers.

We provide a drop-in centre, appointments on demand and referral services available 6 days a week. We can also offer outcalls and outreach or consultation by phone. Our mental health services are free, discreet and confidential. You can come and talk to our professional team at any time for help, advice or support or just drop in for a cuppa and a chat.
