Ten Reasons why we should all be working on Strength and Balance

By Michelle Henry

After 15 years of working in the fitness industry I have heard every single excuse under the sun, why people cannot train their muscles and why they have no balance. Mostly all false information and excuses.

Let me share with you 10 benefits of training to be strong and balanced.

  1. Injury Prevention: Strengthening muscles and improving balance can help reduce the risk of injuries, especially as we age. Strong muscles provide better support to joints, reducing the chances of strains, sprains, and fractures.

  2. Improves Physical Performance: Strength training improves muscular power, endurance, and overall physical performance. Whether you're an athlete or just want to perform better in daily activities, increased strength and balance can make a significant difference.

  3. Bone Health: Weight-bearing exercises, which are often involved in strength and balance training, can help maintain and improve bone density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and related fractures.

  4. Functional Independence: Improved strength and balance enhance functional ability, allowing individuals to perform everyday activities with greater ease and confidence. This is particularly crucial for older adults, as it can help maintain independence and quality of life.

  5. Posture Improvement: Strengthening core muscles and balancing exercises can help improve posture, reducing the likelihood of back pain and other musculoskeletal issues caused by poor posture.

  6. Metabolic Benefits: Strength training can increase lean muscle mass, which, in turn, boosts metabolism. A higher metabolic rate helps in managing body weight and improving overall body composition.

  7. Mental Benefits: Exercise, including strength and balance training, is associated with mental health benefits. It can reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression, while also promoting better sleep and cognitive function.

  8. Daily Life Activities: A strong and balanced body makes everyday activities more manageable. Whether it's carrying groceries, playing with children, or climbing stairs, physical strength and balance are vital for maintaining an active lifestyle.

  9. Injury Rehabilitation: Strength and balance training are often incorporated into rehabilitation programs to aid in the recovery process following injuries or surgeries. Strengthening muscles around injured areas can speed up recovery and improve overall functional outcomes.

  10. Long-Term Health: Engaging in regular strength and balance exercises can contribute to better long-term health, reducing the risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced trainer you will gain benefits from a well-rounded fitness routine.
