Are you passionate about strengthening communities and creating real social impact ?
Wardell CORE and the Wardell Neighbourhood Centre are a community-led organisation dedicated to connection, care, and resilience. From food relief and wellbeing programs to disaster recovery and social enterprise, we’re driven by our values and our commitment to local people.

We are currently seeking new volunteer Board Members to join our team and help guide the next chapter of our organisation’s growth.

Board Commitment:

  • The Board meets 12 times per year, with occasional subcommittee and planning meetings.

  • Attendance at the Annual General Meeting and community events is encouraged.

  • This is a voluntary position; reasonable expenses may be reimbursed.

We’re looking for people who:

  • Bring diversity and value to the Board through their unique skills, lived experience, and community insight

  • Have professional or practical experience in one or more of the following areas: community development, social services, health and wellbeing, governance, marketing and communications, fundraising, or finance

  • Can use critical thinking and collaboration to strengthen organisational performance and innovation

  • Have the confidence and connections to build community partnerships and advocacy

  • Demonstrate integrity, teamwork, and a genuine commitment to place-based community development

  • Reside locally within the Ballina Shire and surrounding areas

Join our team - we are recruiting for volunteer positions

Purpose:

Provide friendly, professional assistance to visitors and ensure smooth day-to-day operations at the centre.

Key Duties:

  • Welcome visitors and provide information about services.

  • Manage appointment bookings and direct clients to appropriate resources.

  • Answer phone calls and respond to voice mails and emails.

Skills Required:

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Ability to multitask in a busy environment.

  • General computer and administrative skills

Purpose:

Oversee the organisation and distribution of incoming donations and maintain a clean, safe and functional environment.

Key Duties:

  • Receive and sort incoming donations (food, clothing, household items).

  • Stock and organise the pantry, ensuring inventory is updated.

  • Assist with cleaning and tidying communal and storage areas.

Skills Required:

  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to organisation.

  • Basic physical fitness for lifting and moving donations.

Purpose:

We will need support with organising, developing and delivering our major events and support our fundraising.

Purpose:

Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages social connection and enhances community wellbeing.

Key Duties:

  • Prepare and serve tea, coffee for visitors.

  • Make lunches and support hydration for all team members.

  • Engage with visitors in conversation and provide informal support.

  • Monitor wellbeing needs and escalate any concerns to the appropriate staff.

 Skills Required:

  • Warm, empathetic personality and active listening skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and care.

Time required : With respect to our ‘continuity of care’ commitment, we require a minimum of 1 day per fortnight for 6 months minimum or similar engagement by negotiation.

About the role

Join our friendly and engaged organisation providing essential care and wellbeing programs to a wide range of rural community members in disaster recovery.

Opportunities for career development, program innovation, mentorship, disaster and trauma healing experience, community development and more.

We are seeking qualified or suitable students of Certificate IV or Diploma programs in Community Services, Youth Work or Mental Health. Graduates or students of Bachelors in Social Work or Counselling.

With respect to our ‘continuity of care’ commitment, we require a minimum of 1 day per fortnight for 6 months minimum or similar engagement by negotiation.

We will consider providing additional professional development training and opportunities for the right candidates. Be prepared to participate in a one-day trial and orientation.

These positions are currently pro-bono with opportunities for ongoing employment for the right candidates and as funding allows.

Meals and occasional stay accommodation are available.
